Dear member of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB),

Greetings from the New England Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology (NESCB). Please take a look at our short e-newsletter below, which contains an update on our activities as well as useful information regarding conservation throughout New England.

Most of you who are receiving this newsletter responded to a recent email announcement from the SCB. Please do not hesitate to forward this newsletter on to your colleagues, and tell them to <mailto:newsletter@nescb.org>contact us if they would like to sign up for future NESCB newsletters. We promise that no more than one message will come out per month--probably more on the order of three or four per year--and we will not share your email address with anybody!

All the best,

The Board of the New England Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology

--Conservation in New England: NESCB's Summer 2006 E-newsletter--

1. NEW ISSUE OF CONSERVATION PERSPECTIVES ON CONSERVATION EDUCATION
The latest issue of Conservation Perspectives focuses on conservation education, and is based on several talks given at a symposium held by the New England Chapter of the Wildlife Society.

2. UPGRADE OF NESCB'S WEBSITE
Over the past year, the board has revamped the NESCB website so as to provide the most comprehensive coverage of conservation issues in New England. Among other resources, there are individual pages linking directly to conservation institutions around New England, a page with links to conservation advocacy websites around New England, and a page linking to undergraduate and graduate academic programs in conservation biology around New England. Please take a look at it at http://www.nescb.org and send comments and additions to Charles Chester.

3. "NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATION YEARBOOK"--CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
This coming year, we are planning to produce an informal "Yearbook of Conservation Biology in New England." The publication will include essays, conservation news, and perhaps a photo competition. Most importantly, we plan to incorporate a section entitled Research Updates--a "who's who" in New England conservation that would describe the research of individual biologists, educators, and conservationists throughout New England. For the Research Updates section, we are asking you to send us (1) a description of your research (200 words maximum--plus weblinks) and (2) a photo of yourself, preferably in the field. We will put these paragraphs into a categorized order for the Yearbook. We believe you will find the Yearbook a great way to network with your fellow conservationists throughout New England. Please submit to researchupdate@nescb.org by August 31, 2006.

4. CALL FOR STATE REPS FOR NESCB
Participation in NESCB at the board level is open to anyone with an interest both in New England conservation and in networking with other conservationists in the region, but we are actively in search of new board members representing Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Please consider volunteering as a board member with NESCB! Contact Charles Chester.

5. MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
You are receiving this email as a New England-based member of the international Society for Conservation Biology (SCB), but your international membership does not automatically give you membership in chapter organizations. Please consider joining or renewing your membership with NESCB securely online by visiting http://www.nescb.org/membership.
