IMAGE FORMATS AND REQUIREMENTS
1) Format should be .jpg for photos or artwork, and .gif for graphs or other "graphics" and line drawings.
2) No spaces or characters (other than underscores and one period) in the file name, and all lower case. Example: insectfeeding2_15_2002.jpg
3) Name the files something intuitive that can be picked up by search engines AND make inserting them in the text easier.
4) Include list of images AND where they go in the text. PLEASE be VERY clear as to placement of images. For example: text text text. [insectfeeding.jpg here]
5) You should send no more than two images per email message when sending as attachments.
6) Images should be scanned at whatever resolution you need to edit them in, BUT final image resolution should be no more than 72 dpi. Make the dimensions of the image whatever size you *prefer* for viewing on YOUR screen at 100% magnification (not 33% or 66% which are often defaults that no one ever notices). We will do the best we can and what space allows to insert them in the text with the same dimensions.
Note: If an existing image is already 72 dpi and needs to be enlarged for e-publication, the image should be re-scanned and submitted at 100 -150 dpi resolution.
7) If you are not comfortable with scanning and editing for web use, send NESCB either the original hard copy or send the original digital image BUT only 1 file / email if sending digital or electronic version. With special request, hard copy can be sent to the editor for scanning. Send requests to: msalett@rcn.com and approved images to:
